Ness City
Ness City, Kansas, is proud to be the county seat of Ness County! It is located at the intersection of highways K-96 and US-283, organized in 1873. This rural community offers over 80 businesses, 5 churches, private & public schools, library, museum, swimming pool and many other amenities. Ness City is also home to the "Skyscraper of the Plains," the old Ness County Bank Building located downtown. Ness City and county was named in honor of Noah V. Ness, corporal of Company G, Seventh Kansas Cavalry, who died Aug. 24, 1864, at Abbeyville, Miss., of wounds received in action, August 19, 1864. Corporal Ness never lived in Ness County, the name was selected by the State.
